A Bit About Me
As a semi-seasoned communications specialist, I have a love for learning and a passion for helping, evident in my experience working with non-profits in both professional and volunteer roles. This started at a young age when I would assist my parents in their many ventures from helping run the local youth football program to helping feed the homeless at the soup kitchens.
On a personal level, I used the skills I acquired from my Bachelor of Science in Communications to become the Popcorn Kernel of my son’s Scout Pack for two years. During this time, I helped make improvements, such as creating
Thank You cards to be given out to customers to developing a communication calendar to schedule out posts on the Pack’s Facebook page. The posts helped keep the families engaged in selling, which came in the form of tips on how to maximize selling, sharing updates on where Scouts were for their goals, and sample posts that parents could copy and paste on their accounts. In my first year, we were worried about making sales because of Covid, but the Pack sold 23% more popcorn than the previous year.
Even though I was able to accomplish so much with my undergrad, I wanted to become more confident in my skills before reaching towards a Director level position. Since making that decision I was able to complete my Masters of Science in Digital Marketing and I am currently working towards my Masters of Art in Public Relations.
The skills learned from these programs have helped me develop an internship program for the Admissions Office of Norwich University. The Admissions Office did not have an official program, so I worked towards creating a guide that outlined the entire program, including office expectations, standards of the program, a timeline of learning, and an explanation of a final project for the students. After the basics were covered, a training guide was built for each intern so that they could keep all of the information gathered throughout the program, including notes from their group sessions.
The highest professional compliment I have received is being told I have such a positive energy in the workplace that it seems to help my team grow together. The acknowledgment of how I go the extra mile for my team and clients, to provide an empowering experience all around, was the result of self-motivation towards reaching my professional goals. My past employer saw the effort I made and granted me 6 Appreciation Awards, as well as nominated me for the International Women’s Day Award in 2021. The best way to describe me on both a personal and professional level would be Gandhi’s famous quote,
“Be the change you want to see.”
